Dr Anna Woodall has over 10 years of experience delivering psychological support and mental health research in Australia and the United Kingdom. She has a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of East London and an Honours Degree in Psychology from the University of Queensland.  She uses evidence based therapies, which is therapies that have been researched and evaluated as effective for particular forms of emotional distress.

She has experience in providing individual and group therapy for a range mental health disorders and other trans-diagnostic difficulties:

  • Mood Disorders and Difficulties (e.g. Depression and Bipolar Disorder)
  • Stress and Anxiety (e.g. Panic Disorder, Generalised Anxiety Disorder, Social Anxiety, and Obsessive and Compulsive Disorder)
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
  • Low Self-Esteem
  • Emotion Regulation Difficulties
  • Enduring emotional or interpersonal difficulties originating early in life (so called personality disorders)

Dr Anna Woodall has a calm and approachable demeanour and prides herself on treating people with dignity and respect. Anna believes that clients bring a wealth of knowledge to the therapy room and that they are the ‘expert’ in their own life and experiences. As such, she will combine this knowledge with her own clinical expertise to formulate a shared understanding of your difficulties and goals for therapy.

Anna’s provision of therapy is time-limited and she will negotiate with you the number of sessions you can expect to attend to address your difficulty. Anna will support and encourage you to practice skills outside of the sessions as she believes therapy is not just about ‘talking’ but also ‘doing’ in an effort to improve our confidence and overall wellbeing. She will regularly seek feedback from clients on how well the therapy is working for them.

Anna may draw upon the following models of therapy in her client’s treatment:

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy promotes an understanding of the relationship between our thinking patterns, behaviours, and emotions in an effort to make changes to enhance our wellbeing and work towards our goals.

Trauma Focused Therapies

  • Trauma Focused Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (TF-CBT):
TF-CBT is a tailored form of CBT that takes into account the impact and symptoms associated with the experience of a traumatic event.
  • Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET):
NET develops a chronological and autobiographical account of someone’s life experiences and has demonstrated effectiveness in treating survivors of multiple and complex trauma.

Schema Therapy

Schema Therapy uses components of cognitive behavioural therapy in conjunction with other interpersonal and experiential techniques to assist in understanding and changing longstanding maladaptive patterns of thinking and behaving.

Mindfulness Therapies

  • Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT):
CFY combats the stress and suffering associated with self-criticism.
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT):
Symptom reduction is not the primary goal in this therapy because distress itself is understood as the ongoing fight or attempt to get rid of ‘symptoms’, instead focusing on your values and increasing your self-awareness leads to enhanced  wellbeing .

Anna has recently returned to Brisbane from England.
